Did you know that the City of Austin provides free water audits to both business and residential customers?
5 tips to help you save water AND money.
1. Residents and businesses, especially higher volume water users, should call the Austin Water Utility at 974-2199 for a free water audit. Implement the audit recommendations. Secure rebates for a range of water conservation investments to offset the costs.
2. All residents, businesses, schools, hospitals and other institutions should be using the most current, water efficient toilets, faucets, showerheads, and other water-using fixtures. Go HERE to learn about free toilets and other available rebates.
3. Start “growing green” today. Droughts are perfect times to transition some or all of your lawn and landscape to native, child- and wildlife-friendly landscaping that is free of toxic chemicals, synthetic fertilizers, and water waste. Learn more at growgreen.org, sponsored by Austin’s Watershed Protection Dept. Get paid by the City for every square foot of lawn converted by going HERE.
4. Never water lawns more than two days a week, in accordance with the City’s watering ordinance. Water less than that and only when needed. Recognize that established lawns are drought tolerant and can spring back when the rains return. Report water ordinance violations by calling 311.
3. Go HERE to email the Austin City Council and tell them to audit the WTP4 project now to expose all of the cost overruns and to refrain from initiating any further construction on the plant until the audit is complete.
